June 1st to June 3rd, 2021
2pm – 5pm EST
Hosted by Mijente and Just Futures Law
Just Futures Law and Mijente are excited to invite you to “Our Tech Futures,” a special convening on tech surveillance and accountability. Join us as we gather with leading thinkers, researchers, organizers, activists, law students, lawyers, and technologists to learn more about developments in policy, research, and law that will support organizing and policy campaigns aimed at combating tech surveillance used against BIPOC and immigrant communities.
JFL and Mijente have also partnered with the CARES Clinic at Villanova Law School to offer an additional track of three rigorous (and geeky!) one-hour Continuing Legal Education sessions. You must register for the CLE program on their website. See for that information above!
Background
Since the launch of the Take Back Tech Fellowship program, militarized surveillance continues to grow more powerful and less accountable – from the use of facial recognition by police to expanding the tech border wall. It is vital that we push back against the harvest of information of our movement and the data mining of our personal, sensitive information for profit. We must fight to determine our tech futures.
The convening will also showcase the important work of the Take Back Tech Fellows and their work on data brokers’ roles in immigration enforcement, use of facial recognition to target activists, and more. We will continue to upload new reports and research to the Our Tech Futures site through the end of the TBT Fellowship in August 2021. Stay in touch to see even more exciting work!
